If you have been around awhile you have come to know (and hopefully love) our Monday K-cup coffee recipes. I love fun, easy to make coffee drinks. They are a simple indulgence that can usually be made with ingredients already in your kitchen. There will be no running to the local coffee shop around here, no sir, we have Keurig’s in our kitchen that make these recipes easy peasy.
Up this week…Southern Sweet Tea!
My mother is a true southerner raised in the outskirts of Nashville, Tn.. I have enjoyed my share of fried food, corn bread, banana pudding and especially sweet tea! More times than not there was a jug steeping in the sun on our back porch. I never knew exactly how she made it, I just knew it was delicious! After a hot day of playing in the sun, there was nothing better than an ice-cold glass if sweet tea!
Soon powdered teas came along and it was just easier for her to mix a quick pitcher (she was a busy mother of four including a set of twins!). But, somehow it just wasn’t the same.
I am here to say…no more powdered teas, I want the real thing. But, with modern conveniences I can have my cake and eat it too! I can have the same taste I enjoyed so much as a kid quickly and easily using my Keurig brewer!
You will need:
1 Keurig Kcup black tea (I chose Twinings English Breakfast)
2 T sugar
1 lemon slice
ice
-Start by filling a tall glass to the rim with ice.
-Next, put 2 T of sugar into a large measuring cup or anything with a pouring spout.
-Brew the Keurig Kcup black tea on the lowest water setting directly over the sugar.
-Stir until dissolved.
-Pour the tea/ sugar solution into the glass filled with ice. Allow the ice to melt for about 3 minutes and top off with more ice.
-Add a lemon slice, start saying y’all and enjoy!
There are a variety of Keurig Kcups that you can use to make Southern Sweet tea:
Twinings English Breakfast
Twinings Pure Black Iced Tea
Celestial Seasonings English Breakfast
I chose the Twinings English Breakfast simply because it is a Value Priced Keurig Kcup. However, for comparison’s sake, I decided to try a Twinings Pure Black Iced Kcup as well. The difference between the two is the amount of tea in the Kcup. Twinings Pure Black has more tea per Kcup resulting in a stronger brew.
It is very difficult to tell in the picture but, there is a slight bit more tea in the Pure Black Kcups but, would it make a difference in the brew results?
Maybe?? The difference is so minimal I don’t even know if it is noteworthy. The taste was pretty much the same as well. There was a slight bit more zing with the Pure Black but, nothing significant. My ruling…either one will work just fine!
