Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews! Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review. Let's face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge, how do you pick the right one? Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman's terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences.
Let's get to the review, up this week...
Pumpkin Spice Chai is a brand new flavored tea brought to us by the ultimate tea authority- Twinings.
This Kcup contains fine black tea perfectly balanced with the flavors of pumpkin and savory spices of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and allspice with hints of pumpkin flavor.
How perfect is this for fall?
I am a huge fan of India Spice Chai tea, it is full of delicious, cozy flavor. This left me with high expectations for Pumpkin Spice Chai especially since tis' the season for pumpkin spice!
I brewed my tea on the middle water setting of my brewer. The results were what I would expect, a slightly lighter appearance than most black teas (I attribute this to the spices in the Kcup).
The aromas were amazing, the smell of spice was very prevalent with just very slight hints of pumpkin.
The first sip was smooth and mild. Again the spices came first, then I waited to taste pumpkin. Although it was very mild it did follow on the back end. I am glad that Twinings decided to go light on the pumpkin flavor as to not turn away those that dont love that particular taste (although I am not sure how that is possible!).
I decided to try a splash of milk with this tea even though that is generally not how I roll. The milk did something wonderful, I am not sure how or why but, the flavors seemed to melt together and become a much more cohesive drink. Not to mention the body became smooth and creamy reminiscent of pumpkin pie with a dash of whipped cream. Note to self- milk in tea from now on.
I am not sure that this is an every day tea for me but, it is definitely a welcomed fall treat!
I would recommend Twining Pumpkin Spice Chai to all chai drinkers and those who love the taste of cinnamon and pumpkin pie. If you are a straight black or green tea drinker this is probably not the tea for you.
