Colombian is a medium roast, fair trade certified K-cup brought to us by the coffee experts at Green Mountain. Green Mountain not only roasts their coffees to perfection but, they also source them from the best growing regions in the world. Colombia is one of the top coffee producing countries, offering us a distinct bean with consistent characteristics that shine through no matter the brewing method.
I chose to brew my Colombian Fair Trade Select K-cup on the highest water setting of my Keurig. In retrospect, I wish I would have used the middle setting. Although, this coffee did not exactly taste watered down, and had significant body, I felt as if it could have a lot more oomph (like the technical term?) had I used a little less water. There was a slight translucency but, I could not see the bottom of the mug.
The first sip brought that traditional American coffee taste. It was very mild and had a complete lack of acidity or bitterness. I would describe the taste as woodsy with very, very subtle hints of sweetness. This coffee is somewhat flat and I don't mean that in a bad way, this characteristic makes it easy to drink and appeal to the masses. This is no surprise to me since Colombian is a top selling K-cup.
I would recommend this coffee to light and medium roast coffee drinkers. Dark roast fans, you will definitely need to brew Colombian on the lowest or middle water setting of your Keurig. Flavored K-cup lovers, this is not the one for you.
Since I am constantly adjusting the water setting on my Keurig to suit different K-cup coffees, I thought I would ask you...what water setting do you usually use?
