Liberty Lungo is a dark roast espresso pod brought to us by Hiline Coffee. Liberty is a Nespresso compatible pod that works with all Nespresso machines (except for the Vertuo line). I brew all of my Nespresso coffees with my cute little red Pixie that I simply adore.

Most espresso pods are rated on an intensity scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest).  The high rated coffees are darker and bold. Liberty tops that charts at a 10 out of 10 intensity.  But, do not let that scare you away.  The beautiful thing about espresso is even the darkest blends are smooth and easy to drink. In fact I drink a lot of my espresso black because cream simply is not needed.

Liberty by Hiline blends 100% Arabica beans from Brazil, Guatemela and Kenya.  I am a huge fan of blends from different regions because they tend to combine all the best features of the area resulting in a well balanced brew.

I chose to prepare my Libery Lungo on the highest water setting of my Pixie. In addition, I went with a double shot. A single just isnt enough to fill my beautiful new espresso mugs!  The result was- as usual- a stuning, rich brown crema.

The first sip is always my favorite when it comes to espresso and Liberty did not disappoint. The creamy texture was complimented by a crisp citrus flair.  The was a complete lack of bitterness and hints of sweet on the back end.  There was no need for cream, this espresso is just right as is.  The intensity is there but, it is not overpowering or a punch in the face.  It is perfectly tempered and balanced.

I think next time around I may go with the lower water setting just to try to pack even more flavor in every drop. The double shot worked well for me as I like to linger with my espresso for as long as possible.  I do wish that the coffee from Nespresso brewers was a bit hotter but, that is nothing a microwave cant fix- dont judge!

Liberty Lungo is comparable to Vertuo, Fortissio, Vivalto and Linizio Nespresso pods.  If you like any of those roasts, this is the espresso for you.  If you are just making the switch to espresso from regular coffee, medium and dark roast fans are going to love this one. Light roast and flavored coffee drinkers- steer clear.

Have you tried Liberty Lungo?  What did you think?
