Wicked Winter Blend is a limited edition Kcup coffee created by Green Mountain. As with all of the limited edition, seasonal coffees Wicked Winter Blend is Fair Trade Certified. Until recently all of Green Mountain's seasonal Kcups were flavored consisting of Pumpkin Spice, Eggnog, Gingerbread, Golden French Toast and Island Coconut. Some genius in Vermont decided it was time to add a traditional roast Kcup, and for that, genius in Vermont, we thank you.
Wicked Winter Blend is a dark roast, extra bold coffee. Simply put, this is a strong Kcup. With that and the term "wicked" in the name, I was a bit apprehensive to try this one but, much to my surprise, I have fallen madly in love. So much so that it has replaced my usual morning Krispy Kreme Kcup (sorry KK, I will be back someday, I promise!).
I chose to brew my Wicked Winter Blend Kcup coffee on the highest water setting of my Keurig knowing darn well that any extra bold coffee (extra bold Kcups contain 20% more coffee) will easily stand up to the additional amount of water.
The result was a rich, very dark brown brew. There is a slight bit of translucency around the edge of the coffee but other than that, I could not see the bottom of my mug. I was happy that I did not find a pitch black cup of mud in my cup, I just was not in the mood for an extra dark, bitter cup of joe.
Not only was this Kcup coffee not bitter, it was actually the complete opposite- smooth as heck. That is a rare feat when it comes to a dark roast (and extra bold to boot). There were spice notes and maybe a tiny, tiny undertone of sweetness. This coffee was intensely satisfying but, not overwhelming in the least bit.
Wicked Winter Blend is a perfect choice for both dark and medium roast fans. If you have been too scared to try a darker coffee, this is a great one to start with. Light roast drinkers, sorry, this is not the Kcup for you.
