Latte's and other specialty coffee drinks are one of my very, very favorite things in life, second only to ice cream! Until now, I fueled my fix with Starbucks or preferably homemade versions of their recipes. Although both are great, there is a new and improved Keurig alternative. Green Mountain has finally released their two step Coffeehouse line of Kcup treats including: Salted Caramel Macchiato, Vanilla Latte and Cappuccino.
I think I have died and gone to frothy coffee heaven!
All three varieties are made with 100% Arabica, Fair Trade coffee and the flavor packets contain all natural ingredients such as milk, sugar and salt. This is very important to me as I see so many other similar offerings made choc full of things I have never heard of. Honestly, the Green Mountain version is the first all natural option I have come across. The best part is they only contain 100 calories and brew in under a minute!
This version of latte, cappuccino and macchiato is very Americanized which is a good thing for many. The coffee used is not espresso providing a smoother, easier to drink option that might be a little gentler on the ol' tummy. If you love the espresso taste, keep in mind these K-cup packs although similar, will not offer that same sensation.
There are two steps to the process and they are both incredibly simple.
First, each Kcup comes with a corresponding flavor/ froth packet. You will start by emptying the contents into your mug.
Next, simply brew the corresponding K-cup as you normally would, directly into the same mug.
Viola, you now have a specialty style coffee treat to enjoy in your own home for a fraction of the cost that you would pay at a coffee shop. The Coffeehouse line of Green Mountain products truly does offer a delicious beverage that I am certain you will enjoy but, keep in mind, this is a powder version of the real thing. I once had the privilege of judging a latte art competition, I was shocked at the level of quality the baristas produced. I was actually chosen to drink the winning latte, I have never tasted anything like it and man was it beautiful. Coffeehouse Kcup packs are amazing but, they are not participating in a latte off anytime soon. That level of barista craftsmanship can not be duplicated in this format. You have to take it for what it is, a delicious, low calorie, low cost substitute.
Green Mountain Coffeehouse is just one more way to expand the seemingly unlimited variety available with your Keurig. From soup to tea to lattes, they have it covered. It makes me wonder what the heck could be next? Knowing their history I am sure Keurig already has something that will surprise us up their sleeves.
