All About Dunkin Donuts K-Cup coffee.jpg

There is no denying it, Dunkin Donuts is a true icon in the coffee world. Pretty impressive for a company that started out selling donuts a mere 66 years ago. In that time I would venture to say that donuts are now playing second fiddle. It is no wonder with the consistent smooth characteristics their roasts bring, Dunkin Donuts coffee was destined to be a star from day one.

Dunkin Donuts was founded in 1950 by Bill Rosneberg in Quincy, MA with one caveat, it wasnt Dunkin Donuts at all. Mr Rosenberg originally opened his first store under the name Open Kettle. After a few years, he wised up and changed it to its current (much catchier) title. It is a classic Cinderella story, one man, one store. Fast-forward nearly 70 years and there are now over 11,000 locations scattered around the globe.

Throughout that time Dunkin Donuts has remained consistently innovative, thoroughly engaging in the latest coffee trends including:

  • flavored coffees
  • espresso drinks
  • K-Cup® coffee pods
  • dark roast varieties
  • frozen drinks
  • non-dairy options
  • on the go ordering
  • cold brew

All of these features may seem common place today but, there was a sad, sad time when the only coffee option was a straight up, standard roast. As consumers we have demanded more creativity and convenience, Dunkin Donuts has delivered on both.

Of particular interest to us, of course, is the 2011 launch of Dunkin Donuts Keurig® K-Cup® coffee. Dunkin so loved this innovation that they kept it all to themselves for the first four years, making purchasing K-Cup® only available at their stores. Finally, in 2015, they allowed a limited retail release and today they are sold through all Keurig K-Cup® distribution channels.

There are five classic Dunkin Donut roasts in the single-sever K-Cup® pod format:

Original Blend

Original Blend Dunkin Donuts K-Cup® coffee is a medium roast made from 100% Arabica beans. As you would expect from any Dunkin Donuts store, this K-Cup® coffee is rich and remarkably smooth.

Dunkin Dark

Dunkin Dark is a the brainchild of the constant drive for innovation ingrained in Dunkin Donuts culture. This K-Cup® coffee is roasted darker leaving a bold, rich brew. But, don't worry, they still managed to pack in all the smoothness you need to make this coffee Dunkin worthy. In addition, Dunkin Dark K-Cup® pods contain 30% Rainforest Alliance certified beans.

Dunkin Decaf

Dunkin Decaf Keurig® K-Cup® coffee offers all the depth and amazing flavors of the original blend with out the shakes! Dunkin Donuts may have skipped the caffeine with this one but, they certainly did not lose any of the flavor.

Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut K-Cup® coffee pods are packed with coffee flavor amplified by a hint of sweet hazelnut flavor.

French Vanilla

Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla K-Cup® coffee gives you the ultimate in smoothness. Silky vanilla flavor adds a new dimension to this coffee roast.

In addition to an amazing Cinderella story and innovative practices, Dunkin Donuts gives back. Nearly all of their franchises are involved in a charity of their own but, the company as a whole is a great supporter of Joy in Childhood and the American Red Cross.Kudos Dunkin Donuts, keep the standards high.
