Keurig K-cup Coffee Recipe- Homemade Kahlua

Posted on Mon, Apr 15, 2013

If you have been around awhile you have come to know (and hopefully love) our Monday K-cup coffee recipes.  I love fun, easy to make coffee drinks. They are a simple indulgence that can usually be made with ingredients already in your kitchen.  There will be no running to the local coffee shop around here, no sir, we have Keurig’s in our kitchen that make these recipes easy peasy.

Up this week…homemade Kahlua.

Kahlua is a delicious Mexican liquor made with premium Arabica coffee beans. This is a versatile drink that be can enjoyed in so many ways.  Kahlua tastes great when added to milk or simply served over ice.  I recently came across a recipe for homemade Kahlua and of course got to work adding my Kcup coffee twist.

You will need:

Homemade Kahlua using Keurig Kcup coffee

1 1/2 cups vodka

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups brewed extra bold dark roast Keurig Kcup coffee

The original recipe (found here) called for 3 cups of everything, I thought that was a bit much for me so I cut it in half.  Start by brewing 2 Keurig Kcups on the lowest water setting of your brewer.  This should give you about a cup and a half of rich, dark coffee.

Transfer the brewed coffee to a sauce pan and heat on the stove top while slowly adding and stirring in the sugar.  Stir until the sugar is dissolved, this should happen fairly quickly.  Remove the mixture from the stove top, allow to cool and then add the vodka. Pour into a bottle or container of your choice to store in the refrigerator.  I used the last of my Absolut vodka for this recipe so I simply up cycled that bottle.

Pretty darn easy isn’t it?! But, how does it taste? I have to say that yes, it was very good but, there was far too much sugar for me.  I also think that rum would make more sense than vodka and next time I would add vanilla.  I am anxious to make my revisions and try again. In the meantime I have some very sweet homemade vodka based Kahlua to enjoy over the next few weeks!!

P.S. Did you know there is a Kahlua flavored Kcup coffee?
