Back by popular demand- Friday Kcup reviews!

Every Friday at Cross Country Cafe we host a flavor review.  Let’s face it the selection of K-cups we have to choose from is huge,  how do you pick the right one?  Who wants to buy an entire box and not like it?! Our goal is to describe how the coffee or tea tastes in simple layman’s terms so that you can determine if it suits your preferences.

Let’s get to the review, up this week…Kenyan AA Keurig Kcup coffee.

You can not help but be intrigued when you hear Kenyan AA, I was excited to try this Kcup coffee because it seemed eccentric and sophisticated (2 things I am not but, can pretend to be while I drink my Kenya AA).

Kenyan AA  is a medium roast, extra bold Keurig Kcup coffee.  This is a rare combination. Most of the extra bolds tend to be a dark roast, giving you a double punch.  I enjoyed the stronger brew with the extra bold feature without the burnt taste that you get from some of the dark roast Kcups. Keep in mind though, despite being labeled a medium roast, this is a pretty “thick” coffee. Even after I added cream it has a very dark appearance (dont mind the missing half a cup, I had to drink enough to be able to describe it to you- it is a rough job but, somebody’s gotta do it!).

As you can see the color if a beautiful dark, leather brown.  A striking feature of this coffee is the silky mouthfeel.  You can almost tell by looking at it that it will be smooth and easy to drink.

Kenyan AA offers an interesting taste combination.  The first thing that comes to mind is grapefruit but that is immediately followed by a fruity sweetness.  With a medium to heavy body, the taste lingers extending the enjoyment.

This is a single origin coffee.  Meaning it is not a blend, giving it a taste specific to its region.  A simple way to spot a single origin coffee is the name.  Generally if a coffee name is a that of a country, it is single origin.  Such as Kenyan or Sumatran. The folks at Green Mountain are experts at sourcing only the best single origin beans.  I have met them personally and I can attest to their passion for finding high quality products and partnering with the farmers who produce them.

I would recommend Kenyan AA Keurig Kcup coffee to medium and dark roast drinkers.  This is a great travel mug Kcup, easily standing up to a large amount of water without losing its wonderful characteristics.  If you are interested in expanding your horizons beyond the everyday common blend, Kenyan is a great place to start.
