I have had plenty of time to sample all of the latest Starbucks Kcup coffee added to our inventory and I have to say...I love my job. Starbucks Kcups are among THE most popular, top-selling Kcup coffees available. I sampled four: French Roast, Veranda Blend, Verona, and my personal favorite Pike Place.
Starbucks Pike Place coffee pays homage to the very first tiny Starbucks store in Seattle, WA. Which of course sits adjacent to the famous Pike Place Fish Market. This medium roast Kcup coffee hails from Latin America and offers drinkers a balanced choice when it comes to roasting levels. Starbucks tends to naturally verge on the darker side. Pike Place follows suit but not quite as boldly as Verona or French Roast.
I chose to brew my coffee on the 10-ounce water setting of my Keurig 2.0 using the strong button (I love the fuller body that option provides). The result was a surprisingly dark cup of coffee...keep in mind, this is a medium roast. There is little or no translucency and a pitch-black appearance.
The first sip was packed with citrus flavor and a hint of the famous Starbucks pleasant bitterness. This was minimal and not overpowering by any means. This Kcup offers a light mouthfeel and a full body. There was a mild but, pleasant aroma.
As is my protocol, I added a splash of cream, and this coffee absolutely transformed. The mouthfeel became silky, the bitterness turned to nutty cocoa, and the body became nothing but smooth. In short...it came alive. Pike Place is an extremely enjoyable cup of coffee (especially with a splash of cream) that borders on the edge of darkness but, maintains medium roast ease. It attains satisfaction without even trying and leaves me wanting another cup, asap.
I would recommend Starbucks Pike Place to all medium and dark roast coffee drinkers. This one is simply a must-try if you fit those categories. Light roast Kcup coffee users, try Veranda instead. Flavored lovers, Starbucks is not the line of Kcups for you- try Gloria Jeans.
