Your Keurig® brewer is always there ready to provide you with a piping hot cup of joe. Of course, doing so requires a steady flow of electricity but, just how much? Are you paying a steep cost to indulge in this modern-day simple pleasure?
As you may guess, your Keurig® brewer uses the most power during the initial start-up. The brewer takes approximately three minutes to warm and about 1500 watts of power costing you somewhere around two cents. Chump change, right? Well, yes but, what if you do this several times a day over many years? It certainly can add up to a few bucks.
If you brew several cups a day (five or more cups), it makes more economical sense to leave the brewer on. Your Keurig® coffee maker will only use somewhere between 200- 400 watts of power to brew a K-Cup® pod since it is not heating the water from a cold start. However, you do need to consider that power will still be drained when your unit is sitting idle, about the same as a 60-watt light bulb or 1/3 of a cent per hour or eight cents per day.
