Keurig K80 KSelect vs. 2.0.jpg

Keurig® has released yet another model of their single serve coffee brewer. It seems that in recent years this has become a regular occurrence as they update their products to align with consumer demands. It started with the Keurig® 2.0 in response to a high customer request for carafe brewing capabilities. However, with the newest member of the family, the K80 K-Select®, they have gone back to their roots. Rather than add bells and whistles, the K-Select® provides streamlined features. The K-Select® reminds me of the original brewer (the K40) but, perfected. My favorite part happens to be the matte black finish, my color obsession (it is also available in red). Aside from providing a stylish appearance, the matte material is fingerprint free!

The release of the Keurig® 2.0 (a few years ago at this point) came with controversy and confusion since it will only brew Keurig® approved K-Cup® pods leaving the renegades lonely on the shelf. Get this; the K-Select® will brew any K-Cup® pod and is compatible with the My K-Cup® reusable filter. I told you Keurig® responds to your demands!

For those that love state of the art technology, color screens and lights galore, the K-Select® is not the brewer for you. You will want to stick with the 2.0 and all of its remarkable abilities. For further decision-making purposes, let's take a look at the features side by side.

As you can see the Keurig® 2.0 is a clear winner when it comes to features. However, sometimes all of that complicates things, and maybe a return to the basics is not such a bad idea. The K-Select® is significantly smaller saving precious counter space. However, the 2.0 has a huge water reservoir reducing the dreaded "more water please" message and let's not forget the carafe size capability. I am confident that both units will please any java drinker but, those are a few choices that may sway you.

What about price? The K-Select® is relatively new to the market, and it has made its debut at nearly the same price as the 2.0 (around $139). That may lend some credence to the quality of the unit since minus all the bells and whistles; it is priced similarly, there must be an increase in quality.

The good news is all Keurig® brewers come with a one year warranty in addition to being subject to retailers return policies. If you pick the wrong one, you can always return it. If it malfunctions, Keurig® has you covered for a full year.

If you have tried either of these coffee makers or perhaps both, please leave your input in the comments section!
