Welcome to our first of many K-Carafe review's!

But first, we should probably explain what the heck a K-Carafe is. Unless you have been living under a rock you are probably aware of the fact that Keurig has released their next generation of coffee brewers- Keurig 2.0.  The bells and whistles on these babies are unrivaled, the brewing technology produces a far superior cup of coffee and perhaps the most intriguing new feature...you can brew a 4 cup carafe! That's right people, we are no longer stuck with one and only one cup of our favorite coffee, now we can share with a friend or (as I do) drink the entire carafe ourselves.

For my first Keurig 2.0 K-Carafe review I chose Newman's Own Special Blend.  This is a medium roast, organic coffee.  I have reviewed the K-cup format of this roast (click here to read) so, I was quite curious to see if the new brewing technology and K-Carafe option would produce a similar or perhaps better cup of coffee.

The K-Carafes work exactly the same as the classic K-Cups except they are a little larger.

Just pop 'em in your unit, push brew and a little under three minutes later you have a full pot of coffee.

The Keurig 2.0 uses pulse brew technology, this is designed to extract more flavors from the coffee for a richer beverage.  From the very first sip, I could taste that something was different.  There was just a depth of flavor that seemed to reach far beyond that of the old format.  Now keep in mind, I was looking for this improvement, I was expecting it. I am curious if any of you have noticed richer results with your 2.0 or is it just in my head?

Newman's Special Blend Organic
has a tangy bite to it from the front end to the back and finishes with smoky flair. I sometimes feel an objection to the medium roast label of this coffee, it definitely borders on the darker side. There is a heavy mouth feel with a pleasant bitterness that lingers for quite sometime.  These qualities were all present with the K-cup form but, seem to be a bit more prevalent with Keurig 2.0.

I would recommend Newman's Special Blend Organic K-Carafe's to all dark roast drinkers.  Medium roast fans, I would advise you to proceed with caution and light roast lovers, this is not the one for you.

One tip before I go, the carafe that comes with your 2.0 is plastic.  It does not hold heat well...or at all.  I would highly recommend purchasing a stainless steel carafe if you would like you coffee to stay hot for any length of time.

P.S.S. The K-Carafe's are easily recycled!

They peel apart leaving the plastic part separate and ready to be tossed in the recycle bin.
